20/11/2016 - GOTTA LOVE THE DAY SPA!

This is how our pregnant girls keep cool in the Qld climate. Honey Joy is late term pregnant and has claimed her priority over the other girls. The herd is enjoying our best spring for some time. In spite of the dry conditions, we still carry a good body of feed on the creek flats.

15/07/2016 - ELVIS

Congratulations to Cathy and Noel Reid from Green Gully Alpacas on their astute purchase of a half share in Sunline Elvis, our highly rated SRS wool male. He is now the sire of many champions, and at least 3 Supremes. We feel sure that he will add another layer to Green Gully's progressive breeding program. Elvis will stand at stud near Uralla, in the New England area, and is available for outside matings there. If you need your girls' fleece improved, Elvis is your man!

26/06/2016 - WINTER HAS HIT

Although we have finally got our winter weather, with all the rain lately, we have plenty of feed at present. That might change if we get a serious frost, but the girls are enjoying the winter sun, and the crias are growing, with no more now expected till spring. Let's hope we get more of the female variety.

16/04/2016 - 2016 Crias Update

A great photo of our 2016 cria - all boys. They're all sired by different males, as the photo would suggest, but interestingly, the white one is by Elvis, from Sunline Josefina, who gave us Sunline Nelson last year.

09/03/2016 - NEW YEAR'S CRIAS - LOTS OF BOYS!

Three new crias have joined the Sunline herd in the last few weeks - and all of the male variety. We have a dark fawn from Melita (who is medium fawn)called Patriot, and a solid white named Paladin from our dark fawn girl, Josefina. Throw in a solid black boy from a girl we purchased, and it's really a mixed bag. So we could be moving to the 'dark side'.

28/01/2016 - ANOTHER SUNLINE ALPACA OF THE YEAR!

We're thrilled to have been awarded the Queensland 'Alpaca of the Year' for 2015 for Sunline Nelson, our young brown male, for his efforts in Qld Shows throughout the year. Nelson's dam is Sunline Josefina, and he is the result of three generations of our breeding. It was extra special to also receive the 'Fleece of the Year - Huacaya' award for Sunline Norton whose dam, Sunline Dimity, is one of the first cria born on our property. Nelson now becomes the 8th of an elite group of Sunline alpacas who have been awarded this prestigious honour.

15/01/2016 - LAST CRIA FOR 2015

Bit late in posting, but this little girl, Sunline Olympiah, a carbon copy of her mum, Sunline Kiah, was born in September. She is sired by Sunline Elvis so could be a starter in the show team this year. Olympiah was shorn in late 2015 and came back with pretty amazing results - 13.6 micron and 2.8 SD. A great start!

15/09/2015 - NOT QUITE WHAT WE ORDERED!

This is our latest addition, Odin, a very nice brown boy - not quite the 'grey girl' we ordered from a Propaganda black dam, and sired by Waterloo Sunset. But he is one to watch in the future as he is very dense and doing well so far.

04/08/2015 - Double Trouble

Check out our latest crias, both boys of course, sired by Shanbrooke Accoyo Invincible. They were born to a Sunline mother and daughter and at this early age, are very alike. Maybe a future Sires Progeny? Big things ahead!

05/03/2015 - 2014 CRIAS GROW OUT WELL

Our cria drop for 2014 ended up with twice as many males as females! Hoping for a turnaround this year. But they are all growing out well and from this group, pictured prior to shearing, we will have some animals with great genetics for sale very soon!

25/08/2014 - 2014 Cria Drop - Interesting So Far

We are at 50/50 male to female with our crias so far this year, with quite a few outside matings including this lovely brown boy, from Millduck Lincoln, from Josefina. Still have a few to go including some from our newest stud male, Sunline Java. Can't wait to see their fleeces shorn soon!

21/03/2014 - AUSTRALIAN ALPACA WEEK

This is the time you can get up close and personal with these amazing creatures. Alpaca Week is the first week of April, and Sunline Alpacas are open on Wednesday 2 April, and on the weekend, Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be alpacas to pat and hand feed, as well as fleeces and yarns processed from our alpacas. Come and talk to us about whether this is an option for your small acreage, and to learn why alpacas are so lovable, but can also be a viable agribusiness.

12/03/2014 - NEW YARN ARRIVES!

Just received the last of our fleeces that have been processed into beautiful yarn, ready for the winter knitting. Also for sale. We now have in stock lots of natural colours from white through fawn, brown, grey and black. These can also be used for hand dyeing projects, if that's your field of expertise, something that I am interested in trying.

12/03/2014 - FIRST CRIA FOR 2014

Our first new addition for 2014 is a solid white female who we called Nikita - this year is our 'N' year. She is a lovely bright white, but sticks like glue to mum's side, and mum doesn't let us get very close either - very protective first time mum!

23/11/2013 - Last Cria for the Year

Our last cria for the year, Sunline Malibu, has arrived a little late, but as a textbook birth for first time mum, Sunline Jamaica. Malibu is sired by Sunline Elvis, and is very similar in colour to both her parents. She has some impressive genetics in her background but isn't she a cutie?

15/11/2013 - LATEST ELVIS BOY

Sunline Jorja ET, Qld Alpaca of the Year in 2012, has just delivered a solid white male cria sired by Sunline Elvis. We've named him Maxim, in honour of our grandson, Maxy, whose birthday was the next day. He is a fine upstanding boy and very cute, at this early stage.

30/08/2013 - 2013 Queensland Alpaca of the Year - Sunline Lacey

After just 3 shows in Queensland this season, Sunline Lacey has topped the scores by winning Supreme titles at all three - Toowoomba Royal, Gympie and the Ekka, giving her the title of 'Queensland Huacaya Alpaca of the Year' for 2013. This follows a line of Sunline animals achieving this honour after Jorja won last year, with Ignite the year previous. Others in our herd who have won this honour are Galaxy, Elegance and Elvis. Well done, Lacey - she has had an amazing year beginning her show career 6 months ago at just 12 months of age!

28/04/2013 - 2013 ALPACA WEEK - 4th, 5th and 8th May

If you've ever wanted to get up close to alpacas, this is your chance. The Sunline Alpaca farm will be open to visitors from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. on the three days listed above. You can see some of our young crias (baby alpacas), with another one due over the next few days. We will answer any questions you may have if you're interested in getting some alpacas for breeding, or just for pets or lawnmowers. We have 3 lovely white boys looking for homes, ready to go. Even if you've never had the chance to see what lovely creatures they are, come along! We also have fleeces for sale and yarn and products made from our own alpaca's fleece. We look forward to showing off these wonderful creatures.

07/04/2013 - 2012 Qld. Alpaca of the Year goes to Sunline Jorja ET

At the combined region's Focus Conference held in November, Sunline Jorja ET was awarded the 2012 Queensland Huacaya Alpaca of the Year title. Jorja had a good year in competition, winning Supreme Champion at Toowoomba and Nanango, and Champion or Reserve Champion ribbons in all the other shows she entered, in close contention with her pen mate, Sunline Juanita. We're hoping for something special from Jorja as she now enters her breeding life.

30/08/2012 - Palmwoods Property up for Auction!

The decision has been made to move on from Palmwoods and although our 32 acre property didn't sell at Auction, it's still for sale - Elders at Palmwoods have it listed. We need to reduce numbers to go to our new place so bargains are available on our quality genetics. Ring to find more about which alpacas would suit your breeding investment!!

15/05/2012 - NATIONAL ALPACA WEEK

It was a busy weekend with many people coming to look at our lovely new cria, who made their arrival just in time for this promotional event. We had four young cria of varying shades from white to roan, who delighted the visitors with their antics. OPEN DAY is on again this Sunday 20th May starting at 10 a.m. if you missed out last weekend.

15/05/2012 - Another Elvis Boy

An unexpected result from an Elvis mating to one of our black mums has thrilled us no end. This young lad is a rose grey / roan and has all the makings of a stud male at this early stage. He even has a great smile!

02/04/2012 - First Elvis Cria on the Ground

We're very pleased to see our first cria from Sunline Elvis, our Supreme Champion of a few years back. A bit slow off the mark due to an illness after his showing career, Elvis is making up for lost time, with half a dozen cria due in the next month or two. Sunline Legend, as photographed, is from one of our best females, Sunline Elegance, herself a show winner of note, and is certainly looking the goods at this young age, with a "look at me" attitude already.

13/01/2012 - Guanaco Group

We were lucky to see groups of guanaco like this in the Torres Del Paine National Park in Chile, amongst the spectacular mountains there. This area is not at high altitude compared to Peru and other regions, but quite mountainous in places. They were very shy and ran from the sound of our bus approaching. Every so often, you would see a lone male on a high ridge, which would make a spectacular photo, but so small in the overall view of such awe-inspiring beauty.

13/01/2012 - Patagonian Adventure

Another 'research' trip was undertaken recently to Patagonia, which is the southern most region of South America, incorporating both Chile and Argentina. What an amazing place with stunningly beautiful snow-covered mountains, pristine blue lakes, spectacular glaciers, and lots of wide open wind-swept spaces in between. No alpacas to be seen, but guanacos, the wild forebears of the Llama, live among this spectacular scenery. They live in small groups of one dominant male with his harem of females and youngsters. The males, often in groups, live separately. This one pictured had been hand-reared, and was very friendly.

19/10/2011 - National Fleece Champion sired by Grindon Juggernaut

Sunline commends the breeding decisions of early breeders, Dennis and Michelle Mycock, of Grindon Alpacas, in producing Juggernaut, who is now jointly owned by Nattaginni and Sunline Alpacas. One of his progeny, Sunline Jade, from one of our early females, Sunline Diamonty, has taken out the Intermediate Huacaya Fleece Championship at the recently held National Show in Sydney. Jade tested at 17.3 micron on her second fleece, with an impressive length of 110mm for an 11 month fleece.

22/09/2011 - Sunline adds a touch of COLOUR!

Due to popular demand for coloured animals, we have added a couple of darker coloured breeding females, purchased from some recent auctions. Next year, we hope to have more cria on the ground from some of these mums. They're certainly easy to pick out in our mostly white and fawn herd!

22/09/2011 - 2011 Alpaca of the Year goes to Sunline Ignite

After a very consistent show season, Sunline Ignite with three Championships, Supreme White at Nanango, and Supreme at Sunshine Coast, took the title of Huacaya Alpaca of the Year for 2011. This title was awarded at the Ekka and was particularly significant for us as breeders, having also bred Ignite's dam - Sunline Elegance, and his sire - Sunline El Zorro, and shows how far we've come since we started breeding.

22/09/2011 - Shearing Completed - Fleeces available!

This season's shearing has been completed and fleeces are now available for sale. We also have more yarn in stock with a selection of hand-knitted scarves available, made from yarn processed from our own alpacas.

Against a group of 60 fleeces, Galaxy took out the Reserve Champion Fleece at the Toowoomba Royal Show.

19/10/2009 - SHEARING DEMONSTRATION AT MALLKINI

During our visit to Mallkini Ranch, they were kind enough to do a demonstration shearing for us - a lot like we do in Australia with a few differences. Animals are shorn on a low table, only restrained by back legs, with the whole fleece coming off in one piece. The handler controls movement and rotation of the alpaca by holding the head and front legs. The fleece is folded up all together and bound by the neck fleece - a very interesting method!

19/10/2009 - PERUVIAN ALPACA EXPERIENCE

Peru is a fascinating place in so many ways. After our family wedding, and travelling to Chile, Argentina and Bolivia by buses and trains (another story), we hired a 4WD and drove to the heartland of alpaca country in Peru - the high country, via Ayaviri, Pucara and Azangarro and visited two of the biggest alpaca farms - Mallkini (the Michell Group) and Pacomarca (Grupo Inca). Both were very helpful and put on demonstrations for us, and were generous with their time and knowledge of alpacas.

19/10/2009 - PACOMARCA

During our visit to Pacomarca, the experimental farm of Grupo Inca, Alonzo Burgos and his staff were running a workshop for Peruvian breeders (through a government grant), teaching them the rudiments of recording matings, and improving shearing outcomes. We were very impressed with their indoor, fully grassed showing area, with 6 or so holding pens outside - ideal for seminars. This group also has impressive records for every animal (thousands of them) and were very scientific in their breeding selections, using their own computer programs.

22/09/2009 - Grindon JUGGERNAUT joins Sunline Stud Team

Recently, in conjunction with Nattaginni Alpacas, Sunline Alpacas snapped up the opportunity to purchase Grindon JUGGERNAUT. This young stud male is a wonderful example of the great genetics Grindon Alpacas developed in Qld and the potent impact that Jolimont Warrior adds to his progeny. JUGGERNAUT is the winner of many broad ribbons, both Supreme and Champion at many shows statewide and has been awarded the prestigious Qld Alpaca of the year title in 2006 (jointly with Sunline Elvis) and backed up winning it again in 2007.We are proud to offer JUGGERNAUT for stud duties and we eagerly await to see the results from our selected females as his cria hit the ground.

28/07/2009 - WE'RE OFF TO PERU!

We are travelling to Peru to attend a wedding and to do some research into alpacas in their homeland. We're very excited and will share some of our photos and experiences on our return.

28/07/2009 - AUTUMN CRIA GROWING WELL

With our autumn babies all birthed successfully and now growing well, it's wonderful to watch them develop and grow lots of fleece over the winter, ready for their first shearing in the Spring.

28/05/2009 - MAITAKE PROGENY EXCEL IN SHOWS AROUND COUNTRY

Congratulations go out to breeders in three states who have had wonderful results from their 'Maitake' matings this year. Queensland saw Kevin and Barbara Craze from Bolero Alpacas lead their young white male'Domingo' into the winners circle taking out Champion Junior male at both the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast shows while Peter and Mary Robinson at Southland Alpacas took the Supreme Champion at Ipswich with 'Tiegue'. In NSW, Rick Hodgson from Adori Alpacas took Champion Junior Female at Kendall with young 'Taki'. Then in W. A., Murray and Judy Stannard from Encantador Alpacas were happy with 'Enoki' at Whiteman Park show where he scooped both the Res. Champion ribbons in animal and fleece classes. He then backed this up with Champion 6-12 month fleece in the Perth Royal. Their 'Maitake' grandson 'Manchurion Warrior' put the icing on the cake for them at the Perth Royal by taking out the prestigious Most Valuable Fleece. Jill and Jeff are thrilled that 'Maitake' has been able to impact on the breeding programmes of these knowledgeable breeders and wish them well for next year. This year has seen a wonderful crop of Maitake's cria hit the ground. We're very pleased with how much he is improving the fleece on cria from some of our average quality girls!
